Although I have been writing in various capacities for over 40 years, it was on a Friday afternoon in January 2023 that I made the commitment to become a professional author and speaker. Having a love for history and humanities from the days of my youth and, having acquired a myriad of diverse and unique experiences in business environments and in life in general, in that epiphanic moment in January, it became evident that my life’s journey, not to mention my gifting in, passion for, and experience with writing, had prepared me well to step into this role.
But what I was not wholly prepared for, and possessed virtually no experience with, was that of doing a work which dealt with the delicate, even fragile theme of race as it functions in American society—and to do so with the goal of delivering a message of hope, encouragement, inspiration, and empowerment to a primarily African American and black audience, people who, too often, have found themselves on the wrong side of the political, social, and economic cultural equation as they seek to live their daily lives in the United States (and abroad).
And while it was critically important for me to speak the truth regarding these issues, I had to do so without alienating, castigating, or vilifying persons of the dominant culture in any way. In my opinion, this is the beauty of Black Man: A Prophecy of Hope for the Times Ahead; it certainly addresses the painful, race-based realities within the nation occurring both historically and currently, and yet its message is redemptive, not just for African American and black persons, but for all people—and its ultimate aim is love: love of self, love of others, and love for one’s country.
In so many ways this book, in the context of American people relationships and the institutions that ultimately govern them, echo’s the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous citation: “The moral arch of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” It is my sincerest desire that you will choose to purchase this book.
